There's nothing to see here yet. As you can see. See? Si! Soon come.
the net Magazine, 1995-1997
the net was published in the early days of the web, so the magazine offers a unique time-capsule glimpse into an internet that existed only for a marvelous, brief moment.
By the time the last of the net's 29 issues were published, the web had changed dramatically. It was growing larger by the minute, online search was improving, and online advertising was becoming feasible. All of which spelled the end for web-centric print magazines. But even if lack of advertising hadn't killed web magazines, no print publication stood a chance of keeping up with the web's exponential growth.
The tone of the net was informal ("Wayne and Blue Grrrl compare the value of a modem to that of a burrito"), reflecting the Web For The People ideal that many internet pioneers believed in and cultivated. That ideal fell by the wayside as the web became a commercial entity.
the net had a website, of course. It was last updated on July, 1997.
